Is Michigan back as a Top 10 economic player? Depends on the metric

"The Top 10 goal was adopted by a group of business leaders really in the depth of the 'lost decade,' " that period when Michigan lost jobs for 10 years in a row from 2001 to 2010, said economic consultant Patrick Anderson of East Lansing-based Anderson Economic Group.

"I remember us talking about it and saying, 'We need a goal that says we don't just want to catch up to the average. We want to be a great state," he said.
